[toc] Background

Creating TRF files from scratch is perhaps the most time-consuming part of any CORSIM modeling project.  From the user's perspective, it is much simpler to modify an existing data file than it is to create one from scratch.  Once given a complete, working TRF input file, the user may then modify default values, add new records, etc.

GTNewTRF is a program that creates a "starting" TRF data file.   Currently, GTNewTRF creates TRF files for simple unidirectional freeways only; on-ramp, off-ramp, lane-add and -drops, and surface street records are not added.  GTNewTRF creates a WORKING data file.  The resulting TRF file may be immediately evaluated using CORSIM.  All necessary input values are provided in the data file.

While the user may modify a TRF data file using GTNewTRF, the software is NOT a specialized data file editor.  The purpose of GTNewTRF is to quickly create a working TRF data file.  This file may then be edited (e.g., values modified, new cards added) from TSIS.

GTNewTRF is a stand-alone Win95/NT program.  To run the program, simply click on the desired icon.

Command line instructions - if GTNewTRF is called with a single command line argument, it will:

  1. display the new file dialog box,
  2. create the new file and store the TRF file directly to disk,
  3. exit, bypassing the normal GUI.

The contents of the input file name (if any) will be overwritten without prompting.   The purpose of this feature is to allow smooth integration with TSIS.
