Overview
Dr. John D. Leonard II is an Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, specializing in transportation and traffic engineering. Dr. Leonard received his Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Engineering in 1983, 1986, and 1991, respectively from the University of California Irvine. Dr. Leonard joined the faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering as an Assistant Professor in August 1993, and was promoted to Associate Professor and granted tenure in August 1999.
Professor Leonard serves as Associate Dean for Finance and Administration for the College of Engineering. In this role, he supports the Dean by overseeing the day-to-day internal operations of the College including procurement, travel, sponsored research initiation, human resources, information systems, and facilities management. Dr. Leonard also leads special projects in the areas of strategic planning, budgeting, and institute planning and research. The College is a significant operation, comprised of over 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students, 4400 employees including over 400 tenured or tenure-track faculty, total annual expenditures of almost $280 million, and annual state support in excess of $80 million.
